Architectural Institute of British Columbia To become an Architect:
There are three basic requirements - Education, Experience and Examination - prior to registration. The first, Education, is usually obtained by satisfactorily completing an undergraduate or graduate program in architecture and gaining a professional degree from a program accredited by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB). As an alternative, ?he apprenticeship route? i.e. successful completion of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Syllabus. (The RAIC is a voluntary national architectural organization). The Syllabus program is not available in Quebec.

British Columbia Institute of Technology A domestic/commercial gasfitter installs, tests, maintains and repairs propane and/or natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in residential and commercial premises.
Gasfitter apprentices must have mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and the ability to read and understand complex instructions and to do careful and exacting work. They must be good with numbers and have sufficient physical strength and stamina to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
The apprenticeship process requires time spent training on the job and in the classroom. A gasfitter apprentice must complete a two-year program including 3,360 workplace hours and 240 in-school hours of training. After completion of training and achievement of a passing grade on the B Gasfitter exam administered by the Gas Safety Branch, a B.C. Certificate of Apprenticeship will be awarded.

Apprentices who have completed Milwright Entry Level Training receive credit for the first level of the apprentice technical training. BCIT offers all four levels of the technical training for the millwright apprenticeship. British Columbia Institute of Technology A plumber installs, alters or repairs any plumbing system, including all work usually done by a journeyperson plumber governed by the B.C. Plumbing Code. The plumber apprenticeship process requires time on the job and in-school training. The apprentice must complete a four-year program including 5,620 workplace hours and 780 in-school hours of training. After completion of training, a passing grade on the interprovincial exam will result in the B.C. Certificate of Apprenticeship, The B.C. Certificate of Qualification, and the Red Seal Interprovincial Standard Endorsement. A Gas B licence from the Gas Safety Branch is issued to plumbers who pass the exam in the last level (fourth year) of trades training.

University College of the Cariboo This 9 month course is an introduction to the trade of plumbing. Students gain familiarity with the hand and power tools used in the field. Hands-on use of the tools and piping materials like copper, cast iron, black iron, and plastics comprise about 50% of the course. Fixture installation is part of this as well. The other half of the course consists of pre-practical training, as well as safety, trade math, and science.
